Talk to us first
Your path. The Dreamer.

You do not need to have it all figured out. You just need to know if it is possible. Here is what to look at first.

First thing
Do you have the right to go back?
If a parent or grandparent was born in a Caribbean country, you likely have the right to citizenship. Establish this before anything else.
Check citizenship rules
Second thing
What will your money actually buy?
Your UK or Canadian salary goes much further in the Caribbean. Use our calculator to see what your income buys in Jamaica versus London.

Third thing
What are people saying who have done it?
Real stories from people who moved from the UK, USA and Canada. The honest version. What worked and what they wish they had known.

Drop Da Pin is honest with you
Moving is not for everyone and we will not pretend otherwise. Some islands have real challenges with crime, infrastructure and healthcare. We tell you all of it.

Choose a country
Your path. Reconnecting with your roots.

You were born in the diaspora but the Caribbean is in your blood. Here is exactly how to establish your right to go back.

Step 1
Citizenship by descent. Do you qualify?
Most CARICOM countries allow second and some third generation diaspora to claim citizenship. You need your parent or grandparent’s original birth certificate and your long-form UK birth certificate.
Check by country
Step 2
Get your documents certified first
A UK solicitor can certify your documents for £5 to £20 each. Allow 4 to 12 weeks for overseas registries. Incorrectly certified documents are the most common cause of delays.
Read the UK Exit Guide
Step 3
You keep your UK passport
Most CARICOM nations permit dual nationality. You do not have to give anything up. You gain the right to live, work and own property as a citizen.
Check dual nationality rules
Step 4
What to expect when you arrive
Coming back after growing up abroad can feel like being between two worlds. You are not alone. Many returnees describe the same experience.

Something we want you to know
Reconnecting is not always smooth. Some returnees feel like outsiders at first. Family may see you differently. The pace of life is different. This is normal and it passes.

Not sure if you qualify?

Your path. Moving with your family.

Your children come first. Here is what every family needs to know before making the move.

First priority
Schools. Public, private and curriculum
Most Caribbean nations follow CXC curriculum. Private schools on larger islands offer IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Public schools are free for citizens.

Second priority
Safety. The honest conversation
Crime is concentrated in specific urban areas. Families who choose the right neighbourhood experience a level of community safety and freedom for children that is rare in London or Toronto.
See safety by country
Third priority
Healthcare for families
Private health insurance for a family of four costs between £120 and £350 per month. We recommend private cover, especially for children under five.

Citizenship
Your children may qualify too
If you are a citizen by descent, your children born in the UK may also qualify. This varies by country. Check your specific situation.

What families tell us after they move
The children adapt faster than the adults. Within three to six months, kids who were anxious about moving are the ones telling their parents they never want to go back.

Ready to look at family-friendly islands?

Some islands are much better for families than others.

See all countries
Your path. The remote worker.

You have the income. You want the lifestyle. Here is everything about internet, tax and visas.

Most important
Internet. Which islands support remote work?
Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica and the Bahamas have the most reliable fibre. On smaller islands, Starlink is now permitted. A local regulator permit is usually required.

Tax question
Do you still pay UK tax in the Caribbean?
If you leave the UK permanently, notify HMRC via form P85. Once classed as non-resident, you generally stop paying UK income tax. Get specialist advice before you move.

Visa options
How to stay legally as a remote worker
Barbados Welcome Stamp, Antigua Digital Nomad Visa and Bahamas BEATS Visa allow stays of 12 months or more. Caribbean citizenship means no visa required.

Co-working
Where to work when you need an office
Nassau, Bridgetown, Port of Spain and Kingston all have established co-working spaces. Our directory lists verified spaces with prices and locations.

The thing remote workers do not expect
Power cuts happen, especially in smaller islands. Budget for a generator or inverter from the start and it becomes a minor inconvenience rather than a crisis.

Your pension can go much further. Here is the honest picture on what you need to know before you move.

Most critical
Is your UK State Pension frozen?
If you move to a country without a reciprocal social security agreement with the UK, your State Pension is frozen at the rate it was when you left. Check the list before you choose your island.

Healthcare
What does health insurance actually cost?
Private health insurance for a single retiree costs approximately £150 to £350 per month. Most plans include air evacuation to Miami or the UK. Get covered before you arrive.

Financial reality
How far does £800 per month actually go?
In London, £800 barely covers rent. In St Lucia, Grenada or Dominica, it covers rent, food, utilities and a social life. Our calculator shows exactly what your income buys on each island.

Duty-free
Bring your belongings duty-free
If you qualify as a returning resident, you can import household goods and in most countries your car completely duty-free. This saves thousands.

What retired returnees tell us
The first three months are the biggest adjustment. After that, most say they cannot imagine going back. Solve the healthcare question properly before you go. Everything else falls into place.

Your path. The entrepreneur.

The Caribbean is an emerging market with real gaps, government incentives and diaspora money flowing back in.

Where the gaps are
Industries the Caribbean genuinely needs
Solar energy. Tech and fintech. Quality healthcare clinics. UK-standard hospitality. E-commerce logistics. If you have skills in any of these areas you are walking into a market that needs you.

Registration
How to register a company as a returnee
Most Caribbean nations allow citizens to register a business for under £100. The process takes one to four weeks. Having your citizenship documents in order first is essential.

Grants available for diaspora entrepreneurs
The Caribbean Development Bank, JAMPRO in Jamaica and the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation all have active programmes for returning residents in 2026.

Opening a business account as a returnee
RBC, Scotiabank and local credit unions are the most accessible. You will need proof of address, citizenship documents and a business plan.

The Caribbean moves at a different pace. Bureaucracy can be slow. Relationships matter more than contracts. The entrepreneurs who succeed arrive with patience alongside their ambition.
